Result shows that any election and Voting reduces the value of the issue for which voting is done. Many really great teachers are not even nominated. One can say that this is the result of IRADIX community but How would it look when some body says that Dr Ravi Ramakantan is not the Best teacher this year when he conducts Residents refresher course for last many years. And why should we award such awards? Can't we do without such awards? In Janata regime (1977) Government of India had abolished "Padm_" and "Bharatratna" awards very wisely. Awards are given to loyal servants by tyrants. In democrasy there is no place of any award. Public on its own gives awards time to time like" Gali gali me shor hai,- - - chor hai" or " Ab ki bari, Bahan hamari/( - - - )" etc. Such awrds are taken back also by the people when it has lived its life.

I am sure the idea of the so called 'award for teacher of the year' is more than anything else an appreciation to all teachers nominated for their contributions to education and learning...regardless of who has won it..There is nothing wrong about that..Its great.. thanks to iradix we can publicly express our gratitude to our teachers even when we cannot meet them personally..long after our post grad courses are over..Dr. Amarnath is an excellent teacher..and he fully deserves it..I am lucky to have been associated with him albeit for a short time just before exams for a refresher course..I agree with Dr.Prakash Vohra a lot of great teachers were not even nominated..but as long as awards are going to deserving people and there is no politics involved i see nothing wrong with it...

I think it is up to people (or radiologists as a subset) to determine whom they wish to choose as the best teacher. True many best teachers were not nominated, but it is the public who nominated them in the first place. Was the poll fair ? Yes, I believe so since every one got ample opportunity to nominate, vote and select. Does it reflect the best possible result? Well, 66 well educated people think so. Even if their preference does not coincide with my individual choice, I would certainly not believe that they are, in any way, wrong. May so many accolades are bestowed on Dr Chellathurai, may he continue to receive the deserving love and respect of his students forever...

The socialist/ communist philosophies frown on awards/ achievements of individuals but in my opinion, time and again such simple things in life are the ones which propel an individual to break the common mould. Otherwise the journey of life will become directionless if there are no stars to chart our path.

And lets take this voting exercise in the spirit of what it was – a means to gauge the public opinion. Since it was the first time, many of us did not understand the methods or significance. I am sure next time onwards every one will have a better understanding and more people will vote.

Poll was fair. Equal opportunities were there for nomonation and voting. My objection is against " award " and "election". Both are sub intellectual processes. We, the specialists, should rise above such dramas which are more fun than worthy actions.Remember best of Indian prime ministers (and finance ministers - MS, Pr.Mu.)who lead Loksabha are incapable of getting elected from anywhere in India. Even Jawaharlal, the great visionary Prime minister could not get elected in the party when he first became Prime Minister. And award can be someday Misawarded.(MGR?!!)
Some other system of recognition can surely be evolved.

dr.amarnath chelladurai is really a great and good teacher. We have heard of dr.ravi ramakanthan is also good and we know about him in most of the National conferences. The best person to judge a good teacher is his students only.As i am from south,i know about the teaching modalities in Madras medical college,Dr.amarnath definitely of younger generation ,definitely a good candidate and as every year you cannot give the same person the best teacher awards.everyone should get the laurel. This is my view and not directed against any body else.
