Indira Gandhi Medical College came into existence in the Year 1966 and is recognised by Medical Council of India. There are 31 specialised departments which are functioning in the IGMC with more than 100 faculty members and 173 senior Residence/Registrars. Modern medical facilities in Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Surgery, Cardiology, Radiotherapy, Neurology, Nephrology, Plastic Surgery, Paediatrics Surgery, Cardiothrocic Surgery, Obst and Gynae, Neonotology, Urology, Neuro-Surgery, Gastroentology, Dermatology, ENT, Radiology, Orthopaedics, Nuclear Medicine Opthalmology are available in the institute which are of all India level.
The principal IGMC Shimla is Dr. Surendera Kashyap.

It was just great to be in Shimla. I miss this institute very much now. It is an excellent platform to grow in radiology. Dr. D.S.Dhiman is so kindly and encouraging. We all enjoyed our time there. I am indebted to Dr D S Dhiman HOD Radiology for giving me a free hand in all the modalities and opportunity to attend all the conferences. We started CT angiography in patients with SAH with success.

I would like to share few things about my department there and the place...afterall i was there for three full years !
First of all thanks to all my collegues and the teachers of mine in IGMC for making me the one of the rare radiologist, DM in neuro and interventional radiologist (presently doing my DM in NIMHANS -Bangalore).
People and place are too good and ll not get such a pure heart people else where in India, it was like home away from home for me. Place is heaven on earth. Department is fiully equipped with state of art machines except for DSA which ll be be soon arriving if faculty and adminstrators realise its efficacy...you ll be given all the oppurtunity to develop the department selflessly and encouraged for ur efforts..People listen to ur suggestions (both senoirs and juniors)...food may be a problem as hostel food is not good enough and you cant get round the clock outside hotels easily, so better to keep the food stuff stored in case of emergency.
